Somduth Dulthumun, president of the Mauritius Sanatan Dharma Temples Federation (MSDTF) is categorical that religion and politics go hand in hand. He stated that as the president of the MSDTF, he does not see any problem with government representatives making announcements at cultural events.
“Politics cannot be dissociated from religion. Our cultural platforms are open for all representatives of the government to make statements. The government works for the public and they are free to make any announcements,” said Dulthumun.
He stated that the Hindu religion is different from other religions and gave the example of sacred epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata.
“We can see in the Ramayana that Lord Rama was a king, politician and head of state and yet we pray to him. Even in the Mahabharata, we pray to Lord Krishna who was a strategist and politician. We are followers of our lords,” said Dulthumun.
He even gave the example of Swami Vivekananda, Dr Manilall and even the Bissondoyal brothers who were all doing politics hand in hand with religion for the benefit of
society.

MSDTF WELCOMES POLITICIANS’ SPEECHES.
That’s a very stupid thing to say.Religious occasions are not public meetings.People go to attend prayers and hear the priests and not political speeches.
You must remember that religious occasions are attended by people of all political parties and by people who are not interested in politics and do not necessarily wish to listen to these speeches.
What you say is very irresponsible and such talks will bring division among people and keep many away from religious occasions.
well you could use politics within the same ethnic group or religious group at that time to bring in education and some social values….but obviously u cnt do it today as we are living in a pluricultural and multiracial society and in such cases religion should be independent of politics and vice versa… as in mauritius we should care for the whole country inclusive of the plurality of cultures and religions coexisting. well sry for u MR Dulthamon bt ur thoughts is considered as an attempt to divide the country. AND btw people go on pilgrimmage for what? people pray for what? people do sanyaas for what? to see u? haha i guess they’d never wanna see u…they’ve gone there to offer their prayers and that’s it…obviously if u wanna share ur views and all about values in life then it’s ok…bt obviously u cannot bring politics in… if u consider the politics brought in by lord rama or whoever u mentioned before…it was a totally different politics and btw i guess u have a big problem in here as u urself dnt know the definition of politics….
