The project of setting up a veterinary college in Mauritius is moving on the right track. The University of Mauritius (UoM) in collaboration with the Mauritius Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) is involved in the implementation of the project.
Speaking to The Independent, the minister of Tertiary Education Dr Rajesh Jeetah underlined that the project will represent an important development in the veterinary education sector. “Discussions have been carried out between the UoM and the Indian promoter Jodhsing Iswar Sing (JIS) group. There are some procedures to be followed but we are expecting it to be ready this year itself,” stated Dr Jeetah.
He added that UoM is working towards it with diligence to ensure that all the necessary requirements are met. “An international monitoring committee composing of foreign experts will also have to give their opinions on the project. However, it can be said that it is going into the right direction and has even reached an advanced stage,” he said.
The MSPCA is also playing an important role in the project as the future students of the school will do their practical part of their studies there. ”
