Crackdown operations to curb noise pollution in night clubs will continue till the end of the year.
As many as 250 people were fined by the police of the environment since mid-December.
The officers received 289 complaints and have responded to 205. “Nightclubs in the north and the region of Flic en Flac, have also been fined for failing to meet the limit allowed by law. This cannot continue,” said the minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Deva Virahsawmy. The police of the Environment is in possession of a list of a dozen clubs under threat of a stop order for noise pollution. “This is a warning to all the managers of clubs who are not meeting the standards established by the Ministry of the Environment. The police, for this purpose compiled a list of about 10 buildings across the country, which could be shut down for noise pollution,” he highlighted.
He added that some of them do not have the Preliminary Environment Report (PER) to enable them to operate as nightclubs. According to the ministry several clubs are operating without a license since they have opened. “We have been receiving many complaints from those residing near those clubs. The police of the Environment will be conducting checks everywhere across the island,” he said.
