The Rastafarian socio-cultural association wants three acres of land for the proposed construction of a place of worship in Chamarel.
José Rose, president of the association, expressed the wish to have a meeting with the minister of Housing and Lands, Abu Kasenally in order to discuss the proposed construction of a Nyabinghi Temple in Chamarel.
“This temple will allow members of the Rastafarian community to have a proper place to perform their prayers,” he said. However, Rose did not fail to deplore the lack of consideration of this ministry for the Rastafarian community.
“We sent four letters to the ministry, but there was no reaction,” he said. The members of the association stated that they need three acres of land to realise this project, which the Rastafarian community has been waiting for so long.
The socio-cultural association intends to hold a Rastafarian walk in Le Morne on February 1 to mark the anniversary of the abolition of slavery.
