The Mauritius International Knowledge Investment Forum (MIKIF) 2012 organised by the Board of Investment (BOI) was held on Monday at the Intercontinental Hotel, Balaclava, in the presence of the minister of Education Rajesh Jeetah.
The aim of MIKIF 2012 is to showcase the various investment opportunities in Mauritius to the global education community.
Maurice Lam, BOI chairman stated that the idea behind MIKIF is to launch the Mauritian education sector services as an exportable good to Asia and Africa.
“There is an economic crisis going on worldwide but it is also an opportunity for Mauritius to act upon it and acquire growth. Around 70 per cent of Africa’s 600 million populations is under the age of 30 and are in need of tertiary education,” said Lam.
He added, “Africa is not equipped to cater for their needs, but we might be able to help some of these students. Even if we get around 100,000 that should make a significant difference”.
Mauritius is the10th largest provider of foreign direct investment (FDI) to India and China.
“We have evolved from an economy driven by monocrop, industry, services to an innovation driven one. The target is to increase gross tertiary enrolment to 72 per cent by 2015. Mauritius is a country empty of resources, and we have become very good at managing our emptiness,” said Jeetah.

It’s a noble cause.Let’s fight for an educated Africa.
