On Saturday, SOS Poverty handed out certificates to 250 beneficiaries of the Microsoft Digital Literacy and Microsoft Unlimited Potential programmes at the Islamic Cultural Centre (ICC), Port Louis.

The programme was sponsored by Microsoft Indian Ocean. Joevany Lisette, the beneficiary of the Train the Trainer programme, also received her certificate. This is an affirmation that she now has the core competencies to teach future trainees. “We are pleased to note that 75 per cent of the 2,750 people who received training since 2007 are now employed”, said the president of SOS Poverty, Yousouf Dauhoo. He added, “Without the support of Microsoft Indian Ocean, our work with the needy would not be possible. These young people would not have benefitted from free IT courses.”

With the strategic support of Microsoft Indian Ocean since 2007, SOS has poverty programmes centred round digital technology. The aim is to reduce unemployment and poverty,” said Dauhoo.

They aim to fight against the digital divide, to bridge the gap between those with access to computers and those who do not.
