Several representatives of American cruise ships will be on the island in August. They will conduct interviews to recruit manpower to work on several 5 to 7 star ships belonging to Royal Caribbean International and Azamara Club Cruises.

Chandra Kumar Seepaul, director of CSCS International manning and recruiting agent for Royal Caribbean International Cruise Line, said that they are looking for 5,000 employees to work as waiters, executive and assistant chefs and in casinos.

Seepaul added that the companies are increasingly turning to Mauritius because they are bilingual, their qualifications from the hotel school and their experience in the tourism.

He also said that more and more youth are demanding jobs on a cruise and that it is an opportunity not only to make more money but to benefit from experience.

The Royal Caribbean International and Azamara Club Cruises own several ships. Seepaul said, “We will recruit the maximum
number of people since the first batch will soon be on board cruise liners and others will follow.”

The director of CSCS International manning said that the selection criteria stipulates that the candidates are 21 years and above, have one year work experience in a hotel and hold a valid passport.

The successful candidates will be paid in dollars. Seepaul explained that a waiter can earn a minimum salary of Rs 60,000 per month while a cook can start with a salary of Rs 24,000. A cleaner may earn Rs 20,000 and on top of that, they also get tips offered by customers.
