After revising its rule of speedometres on motorcycles, the government has once again amended its decision regarding the new number plates for vehicles.
Minister of Public Infrastructure Anil Bachoo said that all new cars must necessarily have the new plates, adding that otherwise, stringent actions will be taken.
However, regarding all other vehicles, the decision to change the number plates is up to the owners. “For other vehicles, it will be on voluntary basis,” Bachoo said.
The minister made this clarification because many motorists are confused as the National Transport Authority (NTA) issued several statements earlier. The minister also pointed out that there are a number of vehicles with the new number plates but these do not comply with British standard.
According to the NTA, the plates should be made of retro reflective material, which, as regards its construction and other qualities, must comply with the requirements of British standard.
