Studying in a French university without having to travel is now going to be possible for Mauritians. A local branch of Université de Versailles, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines is being set up on the island.
Located in the new premises of NeXTeracom in Ebène, the new tertiary institution, Sup’CG Management & Networks will open its doors on September 1.
The official inauguration of the school will be held on Thursday at Four Points, Sheraton in Ebène whereby several eminent personalities including the minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology, Dr Rajesh Jeetah, president of Université de Versailles, Sylvie Faucheux and Francis Rogard, expert at the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
Present in France since 21 years, the Sup’CG Management & Networks group is accredited by the Education Nationale with a team of qualified lecturers who help better prepare students for their higher studies.
The diploma, degree or masters courses, which will be offered in the local branch, concern fields such as IT and marketing, for which there is a growing demand in today’s society.
The director of the institution, Tassi Ambroise, who is very fascinated by the multilingual culture and hospitality of Mauritians pointed out that it is sometimes difficult and costly for locals to study abroad.
Sup’CG Management & Network is thus bringing the courses to the island.
“We are not here to make money but to promote quality education. It is not acceptable that only the rich people have access to higher education,” added the director.
He also declared that the school will recruit 25 educators who will be in permanent contact with the foreign lecturers of Université de Versailles.
They will be sharing notes, information and other practical work through the Internet. However, the director clarified that these courses have nothing to do with distance learning and will not be virtual courses. “
Our objective is to provide to the Mauritian population the opportunity to climb the ladder. We want them to improve their potential and gain more knowledge,” underlined Ambroise.
The students, who will be following courses at Sup’CG Management & Networks, are not bound to any contract and they are free to continue their studies in France. The director also highlighted that this project has required an investment of approximately 150,000 euros. This year, the school will accommodate around 120 students but the number will definitely increase over the years.
The course fees will be the same for the students following the courses at Ebène and those studying in France.
Diploma courses will be available at Rs 125,000 yearly, degree courses at Rs 195,000 yearly and masters courses at Rs 225,000 per year. Those interested in the courses at this institution will be able to register from February 17 to May 16.
