Hamilton College held a cultural show at Pointe Canon, Mahebourg in order to celebrate its 45 years of existence.
On this occasion, a school magazine and a website was launched in the presence of the president Sir Anerood Jugnauth and Lady Sarojini Jugnauth, the Deputy Prime Minister, Rashid Beebeejaun, minister of Education and Human Ressources Dr Vasant Bunwaree.
The manager of the school, Abdool Esoof, expressed his pride on the achievement of the school on both academic and non-academic activities such as sports.
“We want to create a good atmosphere in order to achieve success,” he said. The manager of Hamilton College also said that the college is the 5th college in the island who took part in the contest of ‘Mega Blood Donation Program” and a total of 500 pints of blood were collected.
Lady Sarojini Jugnauth congratulated the college and said that the students have the chance to be well groomed and encouraged the students read a lot.
“It is important for a student to read. Give yourself some time to read and do it for pleasure,” she said Bunwaree referred to the progress achieved by Hamilton College.
The minister also said that this institution has always been present and has always been interested in activities.
He added that it is a matter of great pride that the college has secured a success rate of 95 percent for the School Certificate. “I am proud of the fact and the college made a very honourable performance,” he said.
In addition, he spoke about the new strategic plan of the ministry of Education. A series of measures are being implemented for the Form 3 examination, ‘sex education’ and the introduction of information technology in schools and colleges.
Bunwaree said that sexual education at school should be strengthened as well as sport and physical education.
He further said, “With computers, the teaching of children will be much safer and better. We will equip classes and a demonstration will be conducted in my ministry in 3-4 weeks,” he said.
