Eight Air Mauritius employees have been suspended from their duty following alleged negligence this week. The incident happened on Sunday, August 29, as the President Sir Anerood Jugnauth travelled to China on Sunday to attend the Shanghai Expo.
One piece of the President’s luggage was not on the plane. His luggage was put in last in the aircraft to allow Chinese authorities to unload them first.
According to sources, the parcel landed on another flight in Hong Kong the next day.
Duty manager Ahveenash Ruggoo, loading officer Krishnaduth Raudhay, load controller Thierry Edmund Pierre, senior attendant Basdeo Bageeruthee, chief security officer Pravin Jogoo and duty manager Alwyn Mounsmie now stand accused of professional negligence.
They will have to answer an internal disciplinary committee.
Earlier, customer support manager Raj Ramlugun and ramp services manager Clive Bastien-Sylva were suspended after they lodged complaints at the Ministry of Labour reporting alleged harassment. One of them sought the labour ministry office after he received verbal warnings from his superiors.
Jogoo and Mounsmie were already accused of ‘serious breach of security incident’ in 2008.
The minister of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment received a letter in connection to this matter.
According to a source, the accused are shocked following suspension. The disciplinary committee will decide their fate.
